HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVED IN GOD, and cannot imagine
anyone not believing in God’s awesome power. Even so, when my gynecologist
told my husband and I that it was a possibility we would be childless,
I felt like my world had ended. When I got home that evening, I
got down on my knees and had a one-on-one conversation with my Lord
and Savior, Jesus.
My husband and I tried everythingfrom ovulation tests month
after month, to diet changes. Almost one year later, he said, “Sweetie,
don’t worry about it! I’ll still love you without children.”
But I continued to pray, and I sensed God was telling me to seek
other professional advice.
The very next month, I called a new physician. I had such a good
rapport with this doctor, and felt so much more assured that everything
would be all right. He advised me to relaxbut most of all,
to pray. And that is exactly what my husband and I did. We spent
quiet, relaxing evenings at home for the rest of that month.
Shortly
afterward, I decided to stop by the drugstore and pick up a home
pregnancy test. I tried to quell my fears that the results would
again turn out to be negative. I took the test and stared at it
with disbelief. I grabbed the test stick and took it to a better
light. It was positive! I started singing praises to Jesus, dancing
around the room. I fell to my knees and prayed that our baby would
be healthy. Within the hour, everyone in our family knew the good
news.
The next morning, my doctor confirmed that the test results were
accurateI was pregnant! But a week later, I started to have
light bleeding. I prayed daily for our baby. My doctor continued
to encourage me to relax and pray and prescribed bed rest. When
my prenatal tests came back with abnormal results, which indicated
Down syndrome and spina bifida, my doctor ordered monthly ultrasounds
performed by a genetic specialist.
Without God and such a caring husband in my life, I don’t know what
I would have done. But at each ultrasound, our baby appeared to
be the correct size and developing normally. Finally, the time came
for the delivery. At CHRISTUS St. Mary Hospital, I gave birth to
a healthy eight-pound, five-ounce baby girl. She was perfect in
every way.
I never doubted for a second that our child would be anything but
healthy. I had prayed night and day for her well-being. God will
never let you down if you just trust in Him and believe in His awesome
power.
