AVID AND PAULINE MAGET had traveled from their
home in Missouri to Corpus Christi, Texas, where they were looking
forward to celebrating their wedding anniversary. While strolling
on the beach shortly after their arrival, David suffered a massive
heart attack. A passerby with a cellular phone called 9-1-1 for
emergency medical assistance. David was rushed to CHRISTUS Spohn
Hospital Memorial, where he died a few days later.
During
David’s hospitalization at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Memorial, Pauline
and David’s mother, Ann, stayed at the CHRISTUS Spohn Kieschnick
Guest House. Each morning, we shared a prayer together and a scripture
of the day before Pauline and Ann would go to visit David. They
believed the presence of God was here. In the weeks following David’s
death, Pauline and Ann were invited to remain at the guest house
to finalize their personal affairs and to recover from the shock
of their devastating loss. During this time, Pauline and Ann sang
the praises of the nursing staff and spiritual care Associates who
reached out to them with tremendous compassion and concern.
Pauline and Ann told me they had never before witnessed such kindness
as they received at our guest house. This is how we minister and
touch the lives of those who stay with us. Every guest is different
and has different needs, but the spirit of God gives us wisdom to
speak His words at the right time and in the right way.
