Y JOURNEY BEGAN one dark, miserable day. Life has
not been easy for me, and to make matters worse, I buried my troubles
with alcohol. It took the threat of losing my job and being with
everyone and everything, to make me realize that I needed help.
I agreed to being admitted to an alcohol treatment center to overcome
my addiction. As a mother of three, I knew I had to get my act together
and learn to cope with life. It has been a journey of one day at
a time. Each day, I ask God to show me the way to stay clean and
sober.
When time came to re-enter the workplace, CHRISTUS
Schumpert was there for me. My supervisor and I signed an agreement
to allow me to return to work. He was willing to give me another
chance to prove myself. I also entered a shelter for women to help
me through the recovery process.
My
family, counselor, sponsors and co-workers have been with me every
step of the way. Their support strengthens me. My children do not
judge me, but provide me with courage to begin each day sober.
My co-workers and supervisors at CHRISTUS Schumpert
have been there in my moments of frustration, and have encouraged
me to stay with a rehab program and stick with my job. They are
there for me, whether to just say “hello,” have lunch, share
a devotional with me, or to provide a word of support as I plan
my future.
Just recently, a member of the Congregation encouraged
me to think about going back to school to get a degree. God, indeed,
works in mysterious ways.
I am blessed to have my job, be supported by caring
people and to be a part of a workplace that supports its Associates.
The kindness, respect and compassion shown to me exemplifies the
CHRISTUS Core Values. I dont know what tomorrow will bring,
but I do know that I can count on others to be there for me as long
as I live up to my end of the bargain. This is what makes CHRISTUS
Schumpert a special place to work.
